Pinky Ring Round-Up

You might know that we have slightly different styles when it comes to jewelry.  Jess tends to like statement pieces where Ry keeps it on the simple side.  However, we each have started wearing sentimental pinky rings.  Jess wears an engraved signet ring that belonged to our Grandma (who is 99!) and Ry wears our great-grandmother's wedding band.  Check them out here!

Pinky rings are a great simple everyday jewelry item that goes with everything.  Just keep in mind, the sizing is really important on a pinky ring.  You want to go a little smaller than you might on another finger as there's no real knuckle to hold it on.  Our pinkies are a size 3.5, so you'll probably want to look around the 3.5-4.5 size range.  If you don't have a family heirloom, but want to recreate the look, try one of the options below.

5.  DY Signature Cable Pinky Ring (A splurge, we know, but had to include it!)
6.  Baublebar Maya Brenner Initial Ring

Would you wear a pinky ring?  If so, which one do you love?  Let us know in the comments!

Friday Pick-Six: 11/10/17

Here's what we are loving and living for this week!

1.  We love Food TV's resident Italian girl, Giada DeLaurentiis.  On her Holiday Handbook show, she recently featured a Chicken and Pie Party.  Kind of a weird theme idea, but these recipes sound awesome!  We especially want to try this sangria!

2.  We chose some new colors at our latest manicure and we love these!  Jess is wearing Midnight Swim and Ry has Hypnotic Dreams, both from our fave CND Shellac line!

3.  Years ago, our grandma (who is 99) gave me a signet pinky ring that she had worn since the 60's.  I finally got it sized, polished and re-engraved last week and I couldn't be happier with the results.  In fact, check the blog next week for a round-up of our favorite pinky rings! --J

4.  We are in the midst of a "Healthy Living Challenge" with our friend Michelle.  Each week is a different challenge and this week's was drinking a half-gallon of water a day.  Boy, it was HARD!  We felt like we spent most of the week in the restroom, but our skin does look good so we'll take it.  Here's an article on the benefits of water drinking!

5.  Our favorite nail polish blogger, Kindra at Essie Envy previewed the Essie 2017 Holiday Collection this week!   We want one of every one of these!

6.  How pretty is this stacking ring from one of our favorites, Kendra Scott?  Hello, Christmas List?!

Slow Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Hey friends!  I know what you’re thinking—“A recipe post from Jess?  I thought she always says that she ‘can’t cook’?”  Well, hold on to your hats because you’re right, I cannot, in fact, cook, but I did, in fact, make this delicious dinner the other night.

The key to my success is the crockpot.  To the uninitiated, crockpots seem kind of outdated and boring, but they’re truly anything but that!  We received ours as a wedding gift and frankly, it sat in its box in our basement for longer than I would like to admit.  One day, inspired by Pinterest, we decided to crack that thing out of the box and give it a shot.  What do you know?  You can prepare tasty, (reasonably) easy meals with minimal effort as long as you have the forethought to set it up.

Now I know some people get fancy, searing meat and pre-cooking veggies, but my go-to crockpot meals literally involve opening cans or packages and dumping them in, turning the Ole Pot on and walking away.  I am willing to chop vegetables on occasion, but that’s the extent of it.  Who am I?  Ina Garten?  Luckily, there are so many great recipes that involve just these steps!

One of my favorites is the Pioneer Woman’s Slow Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup.  I’m a sucker for anything with “tortilla” in the title so I knew this was a must-try after I saw Ree (or as my kid calls her “Lady Cooking”) make it on her show.

This recipe couldn’t be easier.  First things first, gather your ingredients.  I added two cloves of garlic (what recipe doesn't need garlic?), frozen corn and a can of red enchilada sauce which we had on hand.  I omitted the chile in adobo in the interest of getting the kid to eat it.

Chop your veggies, season your chicken, dump in some cans of beans and tomatoes and turn that Bad Boy on high.  Then walk away for 4-6 hours!  You’re done!  Run errands, make conference calls, work out, binge-watch Alias reruns on Hulu while hoping your toddler stays asleep-whatever your little heart desires! (I’ll let you guess which one of these I did).  For what it’s worth, we’ve also thrown this together in the morning before work and just set it to low for 8-10 hours instead and the results are still successful.

Either way, when the time is up, here’s what you’re left with…

Delish and totally professional looking, right?  Once it's cooked, you can remove the chicken breasts and chop them, but I shredded them with a fork like Ree suggested for a more rustic look.  Finish it off with a lime juice, little shredded cheese, tortilla chip chunks and pickled jalapenos.  My husband added a little sour cream and we omitted the jalepenos for the kiddo.

This will be a hit with everyone in your house, including the Tiny People.  It also makes great leftovers and freezes nicely, too.  If you want to go for Super Star Status, make this alongside Ryan’s No Knead Bread with a little chunked cheddar, chile powder and jalapenos mixed in.

So break out that crock pot, follow along and thank me later.

TTO the Wardrobe: What to Wear to Thanksgiving

Now that the holidays are coming around again, it's time to get your wardrobe ready!  If you're looking for great stuff to wear, look no further than our TTO Wardrobe guides for the holidays.  We'll feature outfits that will help you rock any occasion.  Here's what we'd wear to any Turkey Day Festivities!

For the causal family get-together:

Tunic, scarf, nail polish, boots, earrings, leggings
Lucky for us, this our family's style.  We keep it casual and cozy, usually with stretchy pants to maximize snacking ability.  The key to this look is an oversized sweater, comfy leggings (or jeggings if you're fancy) and some accessories to pull it together.  Here are a few ways to recreate this look!

Boxy top = More room for turkey!

Did somebody say cozy?
Leggings for life!
Let's Go Lions!  We couldn't resist this one as Thanksgiving is all about football!

The Semi-Formal Family Dinner:

Turtleneck, Skirt, Boots, Earrings, Nail Polish
If your family is a little fancier than ours, or if you're out to impress a little, you might want to up your game.  These looks would be great if you're spending the day with in-laws or folks you don't know quite as well and you want to put your best foot forward.  Because Thanksgiving is still a food-based holiday, you'll want to make sure you look great, but feel comfortable.  Stretch is key!  Here are a few more possibilities to dress to impress!

This flowy dress is elegant and comfy!
A sweater dress is always chic.
Sequin leggings!

Friday Pick-Six: 11/3/17

Here's what we're loving and living for this week!

1.  After seeing this jacket on one of our favorite bloggers, Eva Martino, I had to order it!  I can't wait to wear it for a classic, yet edgy look! --R

2.  We're tailgating with friends with this weekend again!  If you're doing the same and looking for a great recipe for a crowd, try this combo of two great brisket recipes!  We used the spice rub from this recipe and cooked the brisket according to this recipe with delicious results!

3.  We're always looking to save a little time and eye shadow sticks help with this in the morning.  I recently ordered this Laura Mercier set and it's awesome.  The colors are great neutrals so they're perfect for work!  What a great deal, too! --R

4.  Since I've been trying to get my running game going lately, you know I had to order some new leggings.  I'm a longtime fan of Old Navy's compression leggings but look at these moto ones, you guys?  They're so cool and I swear I run faster with them on! --J

5.  I recently tried a new-to-me gel nail brand Gelish for my gel manicure.  I loved the shade (Night Reflection) and the shine.  Removal was very similar to my beloved Shellac. --J

6.  One of our favorite bloggers, Liz at Sequins and Stripes, is already rolling our her Holiday Guide! We'll be sharing our gift guides and hosting tips in the coming weeks, too!
