We took a little Spring Break last week, but we're back again! Also, can you believe that today's post is our 200th post! How crazy is that, right?
Here's what we're loving and living for this week!
1. Today is our Aunt Margaret's birthday! In her honor, we're linking to two favorite posts with some of her signature recipes, zucchini bread and no-bake cookies.
2. As part of a recent Macy's Clinique gift-with-purchase, I received a sample size version of this Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate. My skin tends to be a little on the dry-side so I have loved their Moisture Surge line in the past. I used this as a serum, before my day-time tinted moisturizer and night moisturizer. I think my skin did feel a little softer and looked a little glowy. Give it a shot! --J
3. You couldn't tell it from the weather around TTO Headquarters, but spring is supposedly here! We are looking at adding to our shoe collection for spring and love these colorful sandals! They'd go with everything!
4. Even though neither of us is looking to move any time soon, this post on Young House Love about how to style and stage your house simply was super interesting!
5. You guys, Target has the most amazing new Beauty Boxes! They're available online and in-store and each one focuses on a different beauty aspect. Also, for just $7 you get an amazing variety of products! We want them all!
6. We recently started listening the GOOP podcast, presented by Gwyneth Paltrow and others from her Goop corporation. There have been several interesting episodes--from an interview with Oprah (!) to a discussion of how hormones impact women and weight loss. Check it out.

Friday Pick-Six: 2/16/18
Here's what we're loving and living for this week!
1. Isn't this zodiac sign bracelet cute? It would be fun to wear your own sign, or to wear your sweetie or kid's signs.
2. Are you guys watching the Olympics? We had always been big Olympics fans, so we've been watching all week! What are your favorite events? We love figure skating!
3. We found out this week that NARS is releasing a lip gloss version of Ry's favorite blush (Nars Orgasm). Popsugar has swatches and they're goooooood!
4. We've loved John and Sherry at Young House Love and their great DIY blog for years. Jess also enjoys listening to their weekly podcast. This week, they had a great post about the 10 items in their home that they've had for 10 years. Lots of good investment pieces.
5. We've been dreaming of a beach vacation, but sadly have nothing in the works. If you're luckier than us, check out this adorable swimsuit at Target! Great price, too!
6. Have you ever had a favorite beauty product that you've used for a long time, but wondered about its shelf life? This article tells you exactly how long you should keep each makeup product and why. Pretty sure this means it's time to buy a new mascara.
What are you loving and living for this week? Anything fun planned for President's Day Weekend? We both have short breaks from work, so we're looking forward to a little relaxation! Enjoy it and catch you guys next week!

Friday Pick-Six: 2/9/18
Here's what we're loving and living for this week!
1. How adorable is this rose gold brush set? And a great price for all these brushes! Ry decided to refresh her beauty routine by ordering this earlier this week and it's so great!
2. We might need to try out these easy Chocolate Chip Meringues this weekend! They look so easy and we already have everything in the cupboard! They would also be impressive on Valentine's Day for your sweetie, gals or coworkers.
3. It seems like everyone on the internet is talking about this Trader Joe's Rose Water Facial Spray. It's only $4 and claims to hydrate and condition skin with a great smell. We grabbed it on our last TJ's run and will let you know what we think after a trial.
4. How cute are these tassel earrings? And check out that price!!
5. What do you guys think of this letter board? I'm on the fence if it is super cute, or if I'm just jumping on the trend because I think it would make great Instagram pics. Thoughts? Would it work in my kitchen? In the Kiddo's room? --J
6. Updating your resumé is the living worst, but there are some great tips in this article.

Friday Pick-Six: 12/15/17
Here's what we're loving and living for this week!
1. Since it's release last week, we've been watching season two of The Crown on Netflix. We're only about half way through (NO SPOILERS!) but so far, Prince Philip is NOT our favorite. Hoping to finish up the season this weekend.
2. Our cousin's adorable girlfriend and faithful blog reader (Hi, Kayleigh!) is having an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this weekend! We don't want to give our looks away just yet, but if you're looking for an ugly Christmas sweater, try Target! They just have everything, right?
3. We're big fans of stashing cookie dough in the freezer, but we never thought of this brilliant suggestion on Cup of Jo this week. Bring frozen cookie dough as a hostess gift! Your hostess can store it to enjoy later, or bake it off as an impromptu dessert! What a great tip! Plus that Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe looks like a winner!
4. We've talked about our love for Mrs. Meyer's Cleaning supplies before, but how about this Peppermint scented holiday hand soap? Love it!
5. I was looking to do a little holiday baking with the kiddo on our Snow Day this week, but I didn't want to get into mixing ingredients. Luckily, I grabbed a package of Betty Crocker Gingerbread Cookie Mix at Target last week. You just add egg and butter and you're good to go!
6. One of Ry's favorite things is the annual Haters Guide to the Williams-Sonoma catalog. We always crack up reading this!
What are you up to this weekend? Hope you have a great one!

TTO Holidays: Gift Guide for the Rest of the Crew
So far, we've brought you Gift Guides for the Gals, the Guys, and the Kids. Now we're thinking about everyone else who might still be left on your list.
- For your child's teacher: Jess here. As a teacher, let me let you in on a little secret. Teachers like coffee, but we DO NOT want more coffee mugs. We already have a lot of them. Honestly, in all my years teaching, the best presents I've received have been gift cards. Most teachers spend a lot of their own money on classroom supplies, so gift cards to places like Starbucks, Amazon or Target give them the option of buying for themselves or their class.
- For the Hostess: When you're getting together with friends for the holidays, don't forget your host or hostess. We love these classic wine glasses with a bottle of our favorite rose. Also, did you know that chocolate covered peanut brittle was a thing? And how about one of Ry's favorite candles in a seasonal scent!
- For your Coworker: We're obsessed with this blanket scarf and it comes in a million great colors. Also, who doesn't love a fun game to play on Game Nights?
- For Last Minute Gifting: If you forgot a present, just hop online and do some ordering on these great sites! Do you guys know about The Bouqs Company? Their beautiful bouquets are unique and feature flowers that are cut the day you order! Ry ordered some recently for a friend who was under the weather and the quality and colors were amazing. We've already professed our love for Winc. You can order gift subscription or one of their pre-made gift boxes.
What are your favorite gift ideas for anyone and everyone on your list? Let us know in the comments below and Happy Shopping!

TTO the Holidays: Thanksgiving Guide
Thanksgiving is always a time for food, family and football! We often change up what we do for Turkey Day each year, but we always make sure these big three things are included! Here are our tips for hosting a terrific Thanksgiving that everyone will love!
- Traditional is always best! When it comes to Thanksgiving food, you want to go traditional and classic. This is not the time to try out a new recipe for turkey tacos! Don't ask us about the time one of our aunts decided to make some sort of corn pudding instead of stuffing. People want the classics--turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie. The only place for a little fanciness might be a vegetable side dish. Try some roasted brussels sprouts or green beans!
- Timing is important. If you're a football fan like us, then you need to make sure to plan your meal around game time. Jess still shakes her head at the first Thanksgiving spent with her husband's (albeit lovely) family who decides to eat dinner right in the middle of the Lions game. If your crew is watching the game, serve dinner first and then watch or snack during the game and eat later in the day. Our family traditionally snacks all day and then eats dinner after the Lions game/before the Cowboys game starts.
- Simple and seasonal decor is key. Thanksgiving isn't exactly known for its decor, but you can add a few lovely touches to make your home extra welcoming. As usual, our favorite source for home goods is Target! Just check this cuteness out!
This is also a great time to set a formal table and use some seasonal accents.
Dress the Part! One of the best things about the holidays is choosing some cute outfits! Don't forget to check out our guide to Thanksgiving outfits!
So there you have it! Our tips for the best Thanksgiving yet! Will you be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner this year? What's your number one hosting tip? Let us know in the comments below and happy eating!

Twins Take on the Brand: Project 62
We recently mentioned our love of the new Target brand Project 62. We thought we'd spotlight a few of our favorite items and how we'd style them in our homes.
1. Loring 3-Drawer Dresser: We love the sleek and modern style of this dresser. This would be great in a master bedroom or guest room.
2. Winnetka Modern Slipper Chair: This chair comes in some cool colors and prints. We love this pink scallop color way for a little girl's room.
3. Gold and Marble Tray: This tray would be great to serve up some cheese and crackers or just as a display item on your coffee table or an ottoman.
4. Agate Framed High-Gloss Canvas: Jess is considering this for a large wall in her kitchen. What a cool combination of abstract and natural art for any big wall.
5. Entenza Pendant Ceiling Light: This pendant light would be an easy and gorgeous upgrade to any basic fixture. It would be perfect over a dining table or home office space.
6. Soriano Square Arm Channel Tufted Chair: The navy velvet is classic yet trendy. The color goes with anything, but is bright enough to be a statement piece in a neutral room.
Have you checked out this brand at all? What would you buy for your house? Let us know in the comments below and happy shopping!

4. As always, we are obsessed with the Royal Family! Kensington Palace confirmed this week that the Duchess is expecting a prince or princess in April 2018! But will it be a boy or a girl? We can't wait to find out!
5. How pretty is this ruffle dress at JCrew? I just ordered it to wear to work after spotting it on a coworker!--R
6. After over-purchasing mushrooms for a class science experiment about mushroom spores, I've got a lot of extra mushrooms. I think we'll be making this delicious looking wild rice and mushroom soup this weekend!--J

Streamlining Your Morning Routine
Hi, all, it's Jess. As you might have heard, I recently went back to work as a teacher after summer vacation. One of the best parts of the summer for me is having lazy, laid-back mornings with my kiddo. Now that we're back to work, we have significantly less time in the mornings and are working on keeping things organized and simplified, especially in the mornings! Here are some of my tips for making your morning little easier.
- Use your weekend and evening time effectively: Much of the morning craziness can be avoided by planning ahead as much as possible. We plan all of our meals for the week on Sundays and do grocery and Target shopping on the weekend. This way, we have everything we need (baring emergencies) ahead of time and don't need to run out after work. We also split up the weekly chores on certain days of the week (i.e. cat box cleaning or laundry), so that things don't pile up too much. Each evening, I prepare meals for the next day (more later) and choose and lay out the clothes my daughter and I will wear. Now that she's older, she chooses her own things as she's getting ready for her bath before bed. This avoids any arguments over clothing ("No, you can't wear that Moana shirt AGAIN!") and all she has to do is grab the pile off her dresser in the morning. Laying out my clothes in the morning also takes out the guess work for me. My tip is just to make sure you check the weather and try anything you haven't worn recently on ahead of time.
- Divide and conquer if you can: I'm lucky enough to have a husband who is a pretty great household teammate. We try to divide up our workload in the mornings, so that we can each get ready and help our daughter. He gets up and ready early and then gets the kiddo up and at 'em while I am getting ready. Then we trade off while he makes our coffee and I get the kiddo finished up. If you're a mom, try and give your kids as much to do as possible. Our kiddo is little, but she can get dressed, make her bed and brush her teeth on her own. The more you can delegate, the better off you'll be!
- Meal planning is key: As I mentioned, we plan all of our meals during the weekend and get the groceries ahead of time. We usually plan one open night, so that we can either order in or eat leftovers. We also plan for a few easy and healthy breakfast items that we can grab and eat on the run that are also kid-friendly. These egg muffins, zucchini bread and blueberry muffins are favorites! I also prep all of our lunches the night before, so that we don't have to pack anything at the last minute in the morning. For our lunches, I usually try to pack leftovers, a salad or grab a Lean Cuisine if I'm crunched for time. Look for a post on healthy pre-planned lunches coming up soon!
- Prep for your workout, too: If you plan to work out in the morning, make sure you get everything in order first. Lay out your workout clothes so that you aren't searching around in the morning for a pair of running shoes. It's hard to have the energy to get a good workout in unless you're prepared and ready to go right away.
- Treat yourself: It's not easy to get up every morning and out of bed! Give yourself something to look forward to each week by treating yourself to a fancy cup of coffee out or some time to listen to your favorite podcast. Build something into your morning that you will enjoy and you'll have an even better day!
Do you have any tips or tricks for making your morning manageable? Let us know in the comments below!

Twins Take on the DIY: Kitchen Remodel Part 1
Hi pals, it's Jess. My family and I have lived in our house for a while now and we've done a lot of work around the house. One room we hadn't gotten to yet was our kitchen. When we moved in, the room was...well...colorful.
Our first completed project (before we even moved in) was to paint the cabinets white and the walls a light grey.
We hated the original yellow and grey linoleum floor, but we just couldn't deal with replacing it. We hoped that it was hiding original hardwood floors (like the rest of the house) but sadly, the linoleum was stuck right onto the subfloor. We left it alone for a few years, but complained about it most days!
Finally, we decided we couldn't stand it any longer, so we started researching vinyl tiles. We thought these tiles would be a great option because they were affordable and easy to DIY. We checked out a lot of tutorials like this one and this one. We decided we wanted to use grout to make them look a little more finished. We decided to tile right onto the old linoleum instead of removing it first. We were afraid that it would be too hard to remove after 60+ years of stickiness and didn't know what condition the sub-floor would be in. After a little research, we measured our kitchen and drew a diagram to estimate how much tiling we would need. Then, we finally headed to Lowes to gather materials.
We chose this tile and grout (don't forget the spacers if you're grouting). We also grabbed supplies like two of these grout floats and grout sponges. Then we dropped off the kiddo at Grandma's and got ready to get down!
Here's the big before look:
Our first step was to clean the floor very carefully. You want to make sure that there's no residue or dirt on the floor so that the tiles adhere properly. You can use TSP as you would before painting, but I just used my trusty Mrs. Meyers cleaner, hot water and a little elbow grease.
Next, we removed the quoter-round trim around the room because we wanted the tile to go all the way to the edge. Ours was old and unpainted, so we just planned to purchase new trim and replace it after we were finished.
Then we (okay, my husband) did some measuring and marking so we could lay out the tile. You want to lay it out BEFORE trying to stick it down to make sure it looks the way you want. You might want a level and tape measurer for this part. We found the center line of the room and worked out from there. You will likely need to cut some pieces for the ends, so don't worry about that yet. We adjusted our tiles slightly to accommodate our somewhat crooked wall (see Odds and Ends), you might need to do the same.
Now it's go time! Find your center-line tile, remove the backing and start sticking. You'll then use the spacers to make sure that you leave room (We did 1/8 inch) in between tiles so you can get the grout in later. This part is time consuming and a bit tedious. We worked together and listened to some podcasts (OMG, if you haven't heard How Did This Get Made? do it now!) You might reference your straight edge or level to make sure you're working in a straight line.
This took us until around 1:30 AM, so we hit the hay before grouting. Here's what we looked like at the end of Day One.
Armed with coffee, we started up on Day Two. While my husband finished cutting the custom tile pieces to fit into the smaller spaces (you can do this pretty easily with sharp craft scissors or a box cutting knife), I got my grout on. Make sure you buy grout that is meant for vinyl tile and pre-mixed. You'll also need a bucket with water to rinse your sponge and I also used some paper towel to minimize mess.
I started in a less visible area because I was afraid I'd mess up! You want to drop on a fair amount of grout onto the float and then push it gently into the space between tiles. Once you have spread out the grout, you need to run the level across the grout at a 45 angle to level it and remove excess.
Then you want to get your sponge damp (make sure you squeeze it to make sure there are no drips of water) and gently rub off the excess grout. I rinsed the sponge often, to try to make sure you remove as much of the grout as you can. You may have to do this to remove any grout residue). I found this process very similar to frosting a cake after a crumb coat!
Now, repeat this about a million times! If I thought laying the tile out was time consuming or tedious, I had no idea. Our process was a little faster once my husband finished cutting tile and helped grout.
Finally, we were done and stood back to admire our hard work! You'll want to avoid stepping on the grout to let it cure for at least 24 hours (a great excuse to get ourselves invited to dinner at Ry's!) and avoid getting it wet for around a week.
Here's the finished look!
A pretty big difference, right? We plan to continue our small remodel by adding the trim, learning up and adding a new table and bench seating, so I'll update you all once it's all finished. I am impressed with how big of a change we could make in such just a couple of days. Here are some last odds and ends to keep in mind before you get to work!
Odds and ends:
I still don't get this. Were the previous owners Washington Redskins fans?
Our first completed project (before we even moved in) was to paint the cabinets white and the walls a light grey.
A little better, right?
Nice little Saturday going on!
Here's the big before look:
Smell ya later, yellow!
Next, we removed the quoter-round trim around the room because we wanted the tile to go all the way to the edge. Ours was old and unpainted, so we just planned to purchase new trim and replace it after we were finished.
Yay, 60 years of grossness!
I was getting a little loopy on Snapchat!
Cameo by my husband's knee pads!
It's grout time, y'all!
Then you want to get your sponge damp (make sure you squeeze it to make sure there are no drips of water) and gently rub off the excess grout. I rinsed the sponge often, to try to make sure you remove as much of the grout as you can. You may have to do this to remove any grout residue). | Not too shabby, right? |
Here's the finished look!
Hooray!
Odds and ends:
- Getting started is hard, but JUST DO IT! Before we started to grout, I was so afraid I would mess it up that I didn't want to start. Finally, after a pep talk with Ry, I realized I would never learn if I didn't get started. After an hour, I considered myself a grout pro! You never learn if you don't try, so just get in there!
- You might want to invest in some knee pads. This is hard work which requires a lot of bending and squatting. It's as taxing as a tough day at the gym. Take some Advil and be sure to take some breaks and stretch.
- We measured everything accurately but didn't take into account that our actual walls are a little crooked! Hey, human error, right? We had to adjust our tiles slightly to accommodate a slight bowing of the wall. You might have a tilt in your floor (which we also do) and some of the tiles might not adhere as well due to this. We used a small nail on the couple of warped spots that wouldn't stick down.
So there you have it! Would you try installing vinyl tiles? Let us know what you think in the comments below! Jess out!

Friday Pick-Six: 8/25/17
Here's what we are loving and living for this week!
1. As much as we love summer, we always look forward to wearing fall clothes! There's something so cozy and cool about booties and blanket scarves. Jill from Good Life had a great post this week about the 13 new pieces you need for fall.
2. Our favorite workout, Pure Barre, just added a great new class called Empower. It incorporates the great burn from our regular PB class with an added cardio and plyometric component. We are trying it out this weekend and cannot wait/are going to be so sore!
3. I've been on the hunt for the perfect paint color to change up our master bedroom. We painted it upon moving in a few years back, but didn't test the color first and it came out differently than we hoped (too light). As we've been looking at chips to repaint, I came across this great article from DIY geniuses, John and Sherry at Young House Love. Look forward to an upcoming post this fall documenting our search and final choice! --J
4. One of our favorite blogs, Go Fug Yourself, had a great retrospective of all of the outfits that our BFF Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, rocked this year. Check it out and be prepared to be jealous. So many beautiful looks.
5. Sunday is the Game of Thrones season finale! You can catch up on HBO Go if you need to prepare for the final episode. We plan to be glued to our TV on Sunday at 9:00.
6. After manicures earlier this week, our new favorite shades are CND Shellac Creekside (Jess) and OPI Tiramisu for Two (Ry).

Friday Pick-Six: 8/18/17
Here's what we're loving and living for this week!
1. One of Jess's favorite sandal brands, Jack Rogers, is having a Warehouse sale online this year! This is a great chance to get a deal on some sandals you can wear for the rest of the summer and next year!
2. Did you know that there will be a total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st? If you want to check it out, make sure you do it safely by following these tips from NASA.
3. Everyone wants to get more organized and this week we were inspired by listening to an interview with the founders of The Home Edit on Young House Love Has a Podcast. Their blog and Instagram are beautiful and offer lots of ways to organize and beautify your home. We can't imagine having closets and pantries that large (and organized) but it's great to look!
4. We are pretty big Amazon Prime fans, but this summer we have also been enjoying Amazon Music. For a small amount (starting at $7.99/month) you can have access to tons of songs on your Alexa, phone, Kindle, etc. We use this all the time! Jess's kiddo even knows how to ask Alexa to play the Moana soundtrack (for the millionth time!)
5. Although we are sad to see the Merona line getting phased out at Target, we are liking the preview of A New Day, the replacement line for women. We hope to feature this more after it officially drops on August 27th. You might be able to catch this stuff in stores already, though. Our local Target has had it out for a couple of weeks.
6. This Italian-style fried rice looks like just the way to use up the zucchini and tomatoes that are everywhere right now! Gotta love Smitten Kitchen!

Friday Pick-Six: 6/16/17
Here's what we are loving and living for this week!
1. Father's Day is Sunday! If you still need a gift for the Dad in your life, be sure to look back at our Father's Day Gift Guide.
2. Peonies are one of our favorite flowers. Since they're only available for a small window of time in early summer, we are always looking for ways to help them last longer. These tips from Effortless Style Blog will definitely extend the life of your peonies!
3. Looking for a summer beverage with a little kick? Give Trader Joe's Organic Jalapeño Limeade a try! It's a little spicy, a little tart and great for a hot summer day. Also, in case you were wondering, adding a little silver Tequila takes this up a notch!
4. We often need a snack on-the-go and want something a little healthier than a handful of Goldfish crackers (although we do love those little guys!) One of our current favorites is Sargento Balanced Breaks. They're pre-packaged combinations of nuts, cheese and dried fruits that all clock in around 200 calories per serving. Our favorite flavors are Sharp White Cheddar-Cashews-Raisins and White Cheddar-Roasted Almond-Dried Cranberry. Ry swears by grabbing one of these before hopping in the car for her drive home so she's not starving by the time she arrives.
5. As you know, we enjoy listening to podcasts. Lately one of our favorites has been Pod Save America. Pals and political insiders Jon, Jon, Dan and Tommy take on all the politics of the week and tell you what you need to know. You can also check out Pod Save the World if you want a little international info. These two podcasts plus a new longer commute are making Ryan into a world class genius. Try them and see if they do the same for you!
6. Summer time means ice cream as far as we are concerned. For all the times you want something a little healthier than Dairy Queen, try Halo Top Creamery! Their delicious ice cream is low calorie, low sugar and high protein, so you don't have to feel bad about eating the whole carton! Ryan's favorites are Mint Chip and Salted Caramel and Jess can't wait to try Birthday Cake.
